When you’re first starting out in your business, it can be tempting to compare yourself to the large accounts out there and feel like you’ll never catch up.
In a world where likes, comments, views and followers often feel like currency… I’m here to remind you, they’re not.
Authentic connections still reign supreme in the online world. And by keeping authentic connection at the top of your mind as you build your business, you can create a real income AND a real impact… even with a small following.
First and foremost, you MUST get clear on WHO your target audience is — that is, who you help, and how you can uniquely help them. I cannot stress this enough. Without clarity around this point, you will continue to struggle in your business.

Know Like Trust | Tip #1: Be Consistent
Want to know what will set you apart from 99% of your competition? Showing up consistently.
We're dead serious. Whether you have an audience of 10 or 10,000… the best way to build trust with them is to show up consistently with content that inspires, educates or entertains. By consistently sharing valuable content that helps your ideal audience solve a particular problem or pain point, inspires them to keep going, or makes them laugh and reminds them, they’re not alone… you won’t just attract followers, you’ll build a tribe of raving fans.
Know Like Trust | Tip #2: Create Quality Content
That leads in to Tip #2, which is to create quality content. More is not always better. It’s better to consistently show up with 1 high quality post a day, than it is to throw everything up agains the wall and see what sticks.
Know Like Trust | Tip #3: Keep Your Branding Consistent
Also, be sure to follow Tip #3… which is to keep your BRANDING consistent across all your social media accounts. One of the best personal branding tips my Mom and I ever received was this: Everywhere they go, there you are. You don’t need a huge presence on every social media platform, but if someone finds you on Facebook then goes looking for you on TikTok, Instagram or Pinterest… will they be able to find you? And if they find you, will they KNOW they found you?
Some easy ways to do this is to keep your profile picture the same across all your platforms. If you have a personal brand, use your first and last, or… first and middle… name for your website, and your usernames. If you operate under a brand name, like the Global Freedom Community, make sure it’s the same across all platforms as well.
Use consistent brand colors, fonts and styles in your content, regardless of where you’re posting it. When you’re consistent in this way, people will start to recognize your style, and because you’re creating QUALITY content that helps them, when they recognize a post is from you, it will instantly stop their scroll.
Know Like Trust | Tip #4: Share Your Story & Values
In addition to sharing valuable, high quality content, Tip #4 is to share your story and your values. Every week you should be sharing personal and lifestyle content with your audience. Don’t just share the highlight reels: let them in on the struggles, challenges and roadblocks you’ve overcome.
Know Like Trust | Tip #5: Take People Behind the Scenes
Don’t be afraid to let them in to your world by following Tip #5: Take your followers behind the scenes. This goes for business AND personal. While your high value posts will ATTRACT people to you, it’s your behind the scenes stuff that will nurture that connection and turn a casual follower into a raving fan. People need to know that you are a REAL person with a REAL life… flaws and all. So don’t be afraid to share.
So let’s switch gears, and talk about conversions: how to you build know like trust and generate sales WITHOUT being salesy?
Know Like Trust | Tip #6: Engage With Your Audience
Tip #6 is to engage with your audience. Don’t just talk at them… start conversations! You can do this through your posts by including questions and calls to action in your captions. You can do it in your stories by using features like polls, question boxes and quizzes. And you can do it in messenger and DM by reaching out to people one on one, just to say hi. When someone engages with your post, reply to every comment or even send them a message thanking them for sharing their thoughts.
It sounds crazy, but taking the time to engage with our audience one on one has been one of the greatest “secrets” to our success online. Sure, it takes a little more time than just posting and ghosting… but when you take the time to engage with your followers on a personal level, you can better identify what problems they’re having and offer real, genuine solutions.
Know Like Trust | Tip #7: Share Testimonials
Tip #7… Share Customer Testimonials. Every single week you need to be sharing stories from your customers and clients on social media. Sharing testimonials provides social proof, and allows your followers to SEE how your product, service or business have been a solution for others just like them.
Know Like Trust | Tip #8: Network Within Your Niche
Tip #8 is to network within your niche. Join Facebook groups that relate to your niche, and respectfully network within those groups. You can also do this in the comments section of accounts similar to your niche! By providing a helpful tip, thoughtful comment, or word of encouragement, you’re creating instant connection and conversation. And when you do this in groups and on posts that you’re genuinely interested in, it’s easy to do it in a fun, authentic way.
Don’t go looking for a sale. Simply go looking for a connection.
Know Like Trust | Tip #9: Pay Attention to the Numbers
Tip #9 is to pay attention to the numbers. Take notice of which types of posts or topics get the most engagement, and create MORE content similar to that! The worst thing you can do is just post blindly, without any regard to what’s working and what’s not… as an entrepreneur, everything you do is a test: which means everything needs to be evaluated!
Once a week, review your insights and make note of which posts did well, and which ones flopped. Don’t write off a specific post type or topic just because it flopped once, but take notice of trends and adjust your strategy accordingly.
Know Like Trust | Tip #10: Pay Attention to the Numbers
Finally, Tip #10 – be accountable. Being accountable to yourself means setting clear boundaries around when you will work your business and when you won’t. Hold yourself accountable to your commitments. You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to have unhappy customers… sometimes, even if you DIDN’T make a mistake! You’re human, and the key here isn’t to make excuses or attempt to hide it. Instead, own up to your mistakes and make it right. Remember the golden rule and always treat your audience the way YOU would want to be treated. This will build lasting trust with your customers, and lead to repeat buyers who come back again and again.
Building know, like & trust with your audience is key, and creating real connections with your followers is something that will happen over time… BUT what really helped my Mom and I get our business off the ground, was being able to build an almost-instant know, like & trust factor with people who found us online, so we could create consistent revenue WHILE our audience was growing.
When we got started we had no audience at all. Less than 100 followers on social media, and 0 people on our email list. We didn’t have time to sit around and build a big audience before we started making money… so we learned how to quickly convert strangers into customers and clients, then continue to nurture those relationships so one-time-buyers became lifetime customers.
