By far one of the biggest advantages of having a Facebook group is creating an environment where you can POUR value into your audience. You can take topics you normally cover on social media, and dive deeper… providing additional insights, tutorials, demonstrations, and even do exclusive interviews with industry experts.
And because groups are a more private environment, members are more apt to engage inside a group than they are on a public platform.

As your group grows you’ll find the majority of your content is USER GENERATED. When you encourage your members to ask questions, give advice, and create conversations you are creating a safe place for them to build relationships and engage with others who share similar interests. This means less posting for you… because the group members are creating the conversations and keeping the group active.

A few years ago Facebook announced that they would be prioritizing COMMUNITY in the algorithm. For them, that meant giving group posts priority in the newsfeed, compared to other posts. If you want to test this out, open up your newsfeed and start scrolling. Make a note of how many posts you see that are from individuals, how many are ads, and how many are from groups you are a member of. For me, 5 out of every 10 posts I see are groups. Some are from individuals and some are from ads… but virtually NONE of them are from pages that I follow, unless that post is a sponsored ad.
This means by creating an engaged group your audience is MUCH more likely to see the content you post, vs putting it up on your business page or profile.

Because engagement in groups is so much higher than in a public forum, groups are the BEST place to find out what your audience needs and wants more of from you. By using some of the engagement features I’ll be sharing in a minute, you can quickly find out what your audience is wanting, and then go to work providing that value to them… some free, and of course some paid.
Facebook Group Engagement Ideas
One of the best ways we’ve found to both grow AND engage a group is free challenges. You can a free, 3-5 day challenge in your group once a month, or once a quarter. And.. quick tip… pay attention to which challenges create the most buzz and excitement, and repeat them in the future! We have 4 main challenges that we rotate through our group, and they always bring in a ton of new members and send our engagement rates through the roof.
Tutorials! Once a week pop into your group and do a behind the scenes tutorial for your audience, as it relates to your niche. You can use programs like Stream Yard to stream directly into your group and share your screen.
Live Q&As – these are huge. Put up a post in your group and let people share their questions. THEN, go live a day or two later and answer the 10 most popular questions.
Quizzes and Polls are also a great way to boost engagement AND get market research feedback from your audience. Let them choose from upcoming live video topics, share their struggles, and vote on what they want to see more of.
One of the easiest ways to create daily engagement in your group is to use theme posts. Create a different post for each day of the week, each asking your audience to engage in a different way. For example… Motivation Monday, share your favorite quote! Tip Tuesday, share your favorite tip. Where in the World Wednesday, share where you’re from.
We create 3-5 themes for each day of the week, then use Meet Edgar to schedule those posts in advance. The cool thing about edgar is it automatically rotates and reposts for you on the schedule you choose. So we were able to load our theme days into our group ONE TIME and they have continued to post for MONTHS without us ever having to touch them again.
