Personal Branding for Network Marketers | Why You Need A Personal Brand (And Where To Start)
When the company we’d been with for over 10 years made the decision to take things in a different direction… my Mom and I found ourselves completely starting over in our business.
And because we’d spent the last 10 years focusing on that specific company, and those specific products… we had not built a personal brand, which meant when we left that company, we were literally starting over from square one.
We had been top leaders in that company, winning the award for the fastest growing team 5 years in a row, but no one outside of it had a clue who we were.
We had no brand. No audience. And no influence.
In that moment, we promised ourselves… we would never let that happen to us or our team again. And since 2015 we’ve focused on branding ourselves instead of our company, and helping our team do the same.

First, let’s talk about what a personal brand is: personal branding is a conscious and intentional effort to create influence by positioning yourself as an authority in your industry… elevating your credibility, setting yourself apart from the competition, and ultimately expanding your circle of influence so you can have a greater impact on the world.
Your brand is not your logo. Your color scheme. Your tagline. Or your social media cover photos.
It’s not your Instagram grid. Or your youtube channel. Or even your blog.
Your brand… as Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos says, “Is what people say about you when you’re not in the room”
The reality is, people by and join people… not companies. And yet, as network marketers we believe the lie that if we want to be successful, we need to sing our company & product’s praises from the rooftops for all to hear.
The truth? By setting yourself up as an authority — as someone who is a trusted resource that has a solution that can solve people’s problems, it becomes infinitely easier to attract more customers and team members to your business.
Because when your social media audience feels like they know, like & trust you… they will want to buy & do business with you. They will trust your opinions, take your recommendations, and want to work with you because of YOU, not your company!

When creating your personal brand, the first step is deciding who you want to serve & attract. We did this in our business by completing this brand direction worksheet, which will help you choose the best focus for your brand based on 3 key decisions:

- Who you want to help
- How you want to help them

Personal Branding for Network Marketers | Start Creating Content for That Audience
Once you’re clear on your brand direction and know who you want to serve and attract, it’s time to start creating content for that audience.
The content you put out on social media needs to inspire, inform, entertain & educate your audience. But not just any audience… the specific people who fit your brand direction!
By creating content that specifically speaks to your audience… content they will find valuable, entertaining, informative and inspiring… you will naturally start to attract more and more of those people.
The specific posting strategies will vary based on what platform you’re using, but while platforms change… the basics stay the same: continue to create consistent content that serves your ideal audience, focus on serving them before you sell them, and the right people will find you!
Personal Branding for Network Marketers | Connect + Bring Them Further Into Your World
The biggest mistake we see network marketers make when building their personal brand, is they put out all this great content but have no strategic way to connect and bring those people into your world.
The absolute best way to do this is by building an email list!
You want to create a free attractive offer that serves your audience, and offer it to them in exchange for their name and email. In the next episode we’re going to dive deep into creating your free attractive offer… and how we’ve used this strategy to generate over 43,000 leads for our business!
Another strategy that’s worked great for us is to create a free value Facebook group where people can get access to exclusive content, build community, and continue to deepen their relationship with you as a resource who can help solve their pain points and problems.

Just remember… the group is a GREAT tool to help you grow and expand your brand, but your email list is absolutely essential!
