Why Use Facebook Groups to Find Your Target Audience

With all the new, sexy social media platforms on the scene… it’s easy to forget about Facebook. But did you know that at 2.7 BILLION active users, Facebook is bigger than Instagram & TikTok combined?
And if your goal is to use Facebook to find and connect with people who are already actively looking for the solutions your products, service & business provides… there’s no better way to do it than through Facebook groups.

Using Facebook Groups to Find Your Target Audience | Brainstorming

First, let’s do a bit of brainstorming. Take out a sheet of paper, or open up the notes app on your phone, and write down 5-7 key phrases that relate to your niche.

Think about who your business helps, and how it helps them. If you help new moms lose baby weight with simple 15 minute workouts they can do from home…

Then your key phases might be something like: new moms, moms with infants, baby weight, weight loss, workout tips, and home workouts.

Our brand helps ambitious women start, grow and automate their online business so you can create revenue on autopilot. So key phrases we might write down would be: ambitious women, female entrepreneurs, women in business, business automation, online business, and entrepreneur tips.

Using Facebook Groups to Find Your Target Audience | Choosing Your Groups

Once you have your phrases, open up Facebook, and click on groups. Then, start typing your key phrases, one at a time, into the search bar.

You want to look for groups that are already full of your ideal clients and customers. I mean, think about it… if you help new Moms lose baby weight, don’t you think you some of your ideal clients & customers might be hanging out in the New Moms – Newborn Baby & Toddler Support Group with over 53,000 members and 160 posts a day??

The key to finding the right groups is to look for groups with at least a few thousand members, and recent activity. The cool thing, is Facebook will tell you how many members are in each group AND how many posts there are in the group each day right there in the search results.

Using Facebook Groups to Find Your Target Audience | Using Groups to Meet Ideal Clients

Once you’ve found a group that looks like a good fit, request to join! You want to join 5-7 groups to start with.

Once your membership has been approved, DON’T spam people with your business. This is a BIG no no, and will often get you booted out of the group. Instead, use the groups for what they are intended:

Be social. Join in the discussions! Ask questions, share tips, reply to comments, and just focus on being an active member of the group.

Jordan and her husband recently purchased a Geo Pro Travel Trailer… and the first thing they did before even making the purchase was find a Facebook Group where they could ask questions and get support.

Believe it or not, they found a group with over 10,000 members… just for Geo Pro owners! They joined the group and started asking questions. LOTS of questions… and they used the recommendations of the group to figure out storage options, organization ideas, and even to choose the best truck to purchase to go along with their new trailer so they’d be safe towing it across the country.

Now that they’ve traveled over 5,000 miles in our Geo Pro, they contribute a lot in the group by answering questions and sharing our own tips. Recently we shared a photo of a great campsite we found in Mississippi, and lots of people in the group booked trips to the same place, thanks to our recommendation.

This is what Facebook groups were designed for — to bring together total strangers with shared interests to create community, start conversations, and offer support to one another. You want to go into each of your new groups with that same mindset!

As you connect with people in the posts & comments, connect with them further by sending a friend request! Follow a proven, value based posting schedule on your own personal profile… and before long your many of your new friends will start becoming leads & customers for your business.

Okay, now that you know the strategy – We want to share some quick tips to help you make the most of it without getting burned out or overwhelmed. Before we do though… we have to know:

Okay, let’s get into the tips:

Stay organized! Save the groups you join to a folder in your browser, or even take it a step further and create a spreadsheet with each of the group names and the link to each one. Then, create a weekly schedule for showing up consistently in the conversations in each group.

Don’t be afraid to leave a group if it’s not what you thought it would be, or doesn’t serve your business goals. You might join and leave a dozen groups before you find the 5 that are best for you and your business. Keep searching… they are out there!

And finally, set a timer. Be intentional with your time and don’t fall into the scroll hole!! We recommend networking inside groups for 10-15 minutes a day, 5 days a week for optimal results.
